Wish List
Hi, I'm Lewis.
I am literally captivated by this project we are doing - building an ole
timey one room school house. Not many helpers and so much to do. So Constance
and I sat down and put together a short wish list of things we think would be
nice to display and build into the school to make it authentic. If you have any
of these things and want to give them to the school, please contact us by email.
- Teacher's Desk and swivel chair
- 6 student benches with a shelf underneath for books
- A portrait of George Washington
- Hand lettered alphabet banners for the border of
the blackboard (Got one thanks
to the schoolmarm!)
- An old 48 star flag (got
one thanks to the schoolmarm)
- A dunce cap (can't find my ole one LOL)
- A podium for students who have to recite to the
class
- Coat rack for the wall with wooden pegs
- Small book shelves (found
some out by the road one day, but could still use
more)
- Readers, spellers, and math books with original
copyright date before 1900 (or a modern reprint of
same) (People have been kind
to give us an encyclopedia and some old school books,
thanks George and Judy Jackson!)
- An old dictionary with copyright date before 1900
- 18 individual slates for the students to write
on (Got one from Gene Harkins
- thanks)
- Children's jackets or sweaters 19th century style
to leave hanging on the pegs
- Toys: jacks, marbles, dolls, slingshot, anything
a child would have played with (thanks
for the stroller and doll to Sara, the red wagon from
Vernon Culpepper, and the toys from Donia and Rick
King)
