Florida Flywheelers Village Tour
Next door to Patsy's Cordwood House is the Flywheeler Chapel. It was made
of rough hewn siding milled on our own sawmill! Inside we have a beautiful sanctuary
with antique pews and native air conditioning (fans on each seat courtesy of
the local funeral parlor). When we have our big shows, gospel singers come to
entertain and preachers hold a service or two to keep the Lord's house in use.
There is no electricity in the church, so we use kerosene lamps to create a really
special atmosphere at night.
Next to our Church, there is a graveyard full of headstones, most without
names. Since our club has only had the grounds for 5 years, we had to make up
some ancestors to plant in the graveyard. Coming soon, we will have a memorial
for our members that will sit in the graveyard. It is to be dedicated on our
special salute to Veterans at the Nov. 2001 show.
Across the street from our school you will find the jail. Right now it is closed
because we are not having a show. But when we do, they remove the blue plastic
sheeting to show the cage inside -- enough to scare any hardened criminal into
being good. This cage is made of metal straps that are welded at each intersection,
making a really tight fit. Imagine trying to get out of that! The little sign
you see to the left of the door says "Deposit all weapons here".
This
is Lewis using a site level from the front porch of
the jail to check the lot where we are building a one
room school house next door to the church. But that
is another story. If you want to see our progress, click
on the school link below.
