Florida Cracker House

This is a typical Florida Cracker house. What is a cracker? It is a person who was both born and raised in Florida -- old style. That's why there are not too many of them what with all the tourists and Yankees coming down here who end up staying! See that little building to the left? It is the kitchen. Why they made the kitchen a separate building is how hot it gets to cook in there in Florida ... and if it ever caught fire, perhaps the main building could be saved. Inside the house there is a neat sleeping loft up top where I can imagine Brer Rabbit staying. I am originally from Georgia, and Joel Chandler Harris, who wrote the Brer Rabbit stories, grew up in a house similar to this one.

Brenda's Wash House
Out back of the Cracker house is Miz Brenda's place. She collects antique sewign machines and Maytag washing machines. Can you imagine? Oh well, the ladies have their own engines to take care of! Just to the left is her little chicken coop and a smoke house. All the amenities of a great cook's home.
Cordwood House

follow RustyThis is Patsy's Cordwood House. Instead of building it like a Lincoln Log kit, this house is made of short pieces of log stacked like a cord of wood for a fireplace. The cement caulking in between keeps the bugs out and the inside dry. It is just one tiny room, but she has it real neat with dried herbs tied up and hung from the rafters to dry.
