The Ruth G. Trillich Memorial School at Florida Flywheelers
Village
Building Project in Progress - June, 2001
Getting ready for the second story
This is Lewis "convincing" the plate on
the level of the rafters to go into place and square
up the building to stabilize it. You can see the rafters
through the opening in the wall.
Our subfloor for the second story is also made of chipboard,
so we have covered it with plastic sheeting that we
have tacked down to keep the wind from tearing it off.
All corners have the chipboard attached. This view
shows the future front door.
A view of the church through the door of our school.
The back door will one day lead into another attached
building that will serve as a dry goods store.
Lewis rearranging his stacks of lumber from Home Depot.
We decided to use store bought lumber rather than the
rough cut from the sawmill for two reasons. 1) it would
take at least 3 months to dry and shrink before we
could use it, and we have a deadline of Nov 8, 2001
to get ready for the Flywheelers' show. 2) roughcut
is just too random in size. Although we have ended
up buying a planer, it would take a lot of time to
plane and make the wood uniform. Like I said, deadlines!.
Here comes Paul to help Lew put up the framing for
the two outside walls of our second story. Actually
the building is officially a story and a half. What
this means is the second floor is more like an attic
with short walls on the sides next to which only a
child or short person would be able to stand upright.
