Building Project in Progress - May 20, 2001
Framing and setting the walls
Rick and Lewis are laying out the studs to frame in a wall. It is a lot easier
to do this on the ground than to throw up a wall and then have to cut and trim
to add openings for windows and doors later. Our canopy tent provides some much
needed shade.
Our cement foundation is poured and dried. Now we are putting up the framing
for the walls. The little white tent is to keep the hot Florida sun off our backs
while Lewis cuts boards. The blue van is Rick King's, our mentor and encouragement
on this project. Rick has a log cabin of his own in our village that you can
see on the tour.
Lew is standing in the opening that will be our front door. Rick is nailing a
chipboard panel to the corner to strengthen the building framing.
Here is a view out our future front door. The reason the studs are placed so
far apart on the left is that is where a window will go. And, one day, we will
have a nice front porch to keep the sun off - Southern style.
Here is Lew taking a break under our canopy tent, surveying what needs to be
done next. With weather in the high 90's breaks are necessary to keep you from
having heat stroke.
